Laser Hair Regrowth

Low level laser therapy or LLLT has been approved by the US Food and Drug Administration as being safe to use as a treatment for hair regrowth or restoration. LLLT is one of the most convenient treatments available for people suffering from hair loss and can be administered outside medical facilities.

What is Low Level Laser Therapy?

Low level lasers are described as cold lasers since the energy the laser beams release do not materialize as heat. In the 1960’s and 1970’s, low level lasers were initially used for evaluating effects on living tissue and determining if it had the ability to induce biostimulation. Recent studies had then showed that the use of low level lasers could produce similar effects as to those of Minoxidil – one of just two treatments certified by the FDA for hair loss.

Benefits of Using LLLT for Hair Regrowth

There are many benefits to enjoy once you choose to utilize LLLT for hair regrowth.

Non-invasive Procedure

Unlike other some other treatments, there is nothing invasive about low level laser therapy. This treatment can be applied without requiring any puncture or opening in your body. Laser beams used in LLLT are able to shine through the skin and some studies have shown this can stimulate improved growth of the hair follicles, although findings are still not conclusive.

Painless Procedure

There is no pain involved when one undergoes LLLT for hair regrowth. As low level laser light beams are used, heat isn’t produced and released in the process. The absence of heat consequently means that the individual doesn’t have to suffer from any burning or cutting sensation during the procedure. Although a sense of tingling may be encountered, there is no pain involved.

Increase in Blood Flow

Some studies have shown that LLLT has the ability to increase blow flow in areas subjected to the treatment. It is thought that the increased blood flow improves growth of the hair root at the follicle leading to stronger and thicker hair growth.

Tips on Taking LLLT for Hair Regrowth

Your doctor will be able to advise you if LLLT is a viable option and especially if your loss of hair is not a medical condition but rather a symptom of an underlying illness or disorder. LLLT may be administered in a medical facility, at home or in the office and you don’t need to take any time off work after the treatment.
